Hard to organize print materials? Try spiral binding!

Even though we mainly use computers for classes and assignments, we still get a noticeable amount of print materials from each teacher. Some organize them with a binder, but it is uncomfortable to carry a binder because of its size. There are several ways to do binding, however, spiral binding (or coil binding) is the easiest and quickest way to organize your print materials.

Materials:

  • Hole puncher

  • Spirals

  • Cutting machine (only if you’re trying to bind a book)

Directions:

1. Start by taking the pages off from a book. (You may skip this step if you are binding the print materials)

2. Make sure the edges are straight. Use a cutting machine, if it’s needed. (You may skip this step if you are binding the print materials)

3. Start by making holes on the papers using a hole puncher. Make sure the distance between the holes is constant. If you don’t have a hole puncher, you can instead use an awl and a ruler to do so.

4. Place a spiral into the bottom hole and roll it until it reaches the top.

5. Cut off the spiral in case it’s longer than the paper.

6. Fold the topmost and the bottom-most part of the spiral so it doesn’t get off easily.

Be careful!
