How to clean a fish tank

Hello everyone! Today I will be talking about how to clean a fish tank. I suggest you read this article if you are looking for a way of cleaning your tank without spending too much money and time, as this process should only take about 20 minutes if done well.

Cleaning a fish tank is no easy job. When I first started getting goldfish, I thought the task was going to be something very easy and very quick to do but I was wrong. As many would think, all you have to do is take the water out and fill the tank or fish bowl with new water but that is not how easy it actually is.

To clean a goldfish tank, the first thing you have to do is to take the fish out of the tank with a net and put them in a bucket or container with water. The next step to cleaning the tank is to take about 30 to 40 percent of the water out and put it into a bucket and just keep it there because you will need it at the end of the cleaning process. The third step is to put your hand into the sand or gravel on the bottom, and move it around to make the wastes and uneaten food of the fish emerge into the water. After this, you put the dirty water into a bucket by scooping it out with a container or with a pump. This dirty water with waste and unwanted food can be poured into a toilet.

Once your tank has no water in it, the only thing that should be in the tank are the plants (real or fake), the gravel or sand and the decorations. The decorations and plants have to be put into a separate bucket or onto a towel. The gravel should be clean after moving the wastes into the water.

For these next steps, there will just be one tool used, it can be either a toothbrush or a sponge. The bristles of the toothbrush (or sponge) will be rubbed against all the parts of the decorations that are dark or green. The decorations will have these colors because of the algae that has grown on them. The same has to be done to the inside of the glass, as the algae also grows on glass.

Once you have cleaned the tank, the decorations and you have the goldfish in a container and some of the old water stored in a bucket, you are done with the cleaning and you can start putting back everything into your tank. The sand or gravel will still be in the tank and the decorations and plants can be put back into the tank. The old water will be put back into the tank to preserve some of the beneficial bacteria in the water. The rest of the water can be new water. The new water can also be taken from the tap.

This process should be done in general when you can see the tank is starting to have algae and when the water and glass are not completely transparent. Usually this process should be done about every 2 weeks. Filters and Aerator pumps will clean the water more, making it possible to wait a bit longer for the tank cleaning.

Thank you for reading this and I hope this helped you clean your goldfish tank.

Have Fun!
