Mistreated Animals and How We Can Help

All around the world, animals are constantly mistreated, pets in homes are being hurt, and horses in the wild are being killed and transported out of their land. In my opinion, this is unacceptable and it has to stop, therefore, I would like to bring to light this topic for the sake of awareness.

An example of animal mistreatment, that has always been hard for me to accept, is horse mistreatment. I ride these fantastic animals more than three times a week, and imagining that all around the world they are being mistreated makes my heart break. Everyday, I try my best to care for my horses and be the best owner I can be. However, not everyone believes in respecting horses. According to Equine Helper editor Carmella Abel: horses are being abandoned at boarding stables, horse owners are neglecting basic horse care responsibilities (such as feeding and cleaning their horse). Horses are also being overworked, and are being ridden at an age that is too young: all to serve their master’s purpose.

Another example of animal mistreatment happens in the wild: hundreds of animals are being stripped from their homes every day to be used for public entertainment. They are forced into cages, transported into crowded trucks and forced in small zoos. Horses are subjected to abuse, both physical and mental, according to the editors of the World Animal Protection website.

Clearly, animal mistreatment is a very serious problem that needs to be addressed and solved. But how can we help solve it?

Firstly, I recommend donating to some associations that could permit you to help these mistreated animals. Regarding horses, one could sign up to the ASPCA organisation, which helps horses, amongst other animals. Their goals include: helping horses find homes, keeping horses safe, and combating cruelty and responding to crises. Through their online adoption portal, named “My Right Horse”, you can adopt a horse and help them escape cruelty. You could also check the Italian website named “Progetto Islander” if you want to help horses specifically in Italy.

In addition, if you wish to help animals avoid being mistreated, I strongly suggest you check out the Allen County SPCA website, which permits you to adopt and/or donate to help animals. Lastly, another relevant website is from the association Last Chance for Animals, in which you can donate a total amount of money to help solve this pressing issue.

With a total donation every year, we can help save millions of animals that are being unrightfully mistreated. So, will you help these animals?
